I did not mention my emr but let her know that I had been seriously considering it. I felt that she needed to know how close I truly was to ending the marriage.

CassandraAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-1161459668879647192006-10-21T15:41:00.000-04:002006-10-21T15:41:00.000-04:00I think that your flirtations with the edge repres...I think that your flirtations with the edge represent an important part of your life that your therapist should know about. I think full disclosure to your therapist is the way to go. Your purpose of going to the therapist is to help you with your crucible process. An essential element of the crucible process as I understand it is being completely honest with oneself - and to realize ways in which we are NOT honest and true to ourself.

Your therapist should provide an environment that enables you to be completely honest in what you tell him/her about your thoughts, feelings and actions. However, if you sense that the therapist is becoming judgemental towards you, I would find another one immediately.

In my own case, I had a series of short EMR's over a two-year span that ended several years ago. My wife is completely ignorant of those activities. Subsequently, I have seen a therapist for the past two years. The focus of my therapy has been on developing my communication skills, particularly in the context of my relationship with my wife and son. I have not discussed my prior EMR's with my therapist, as I have thought that they were past history and not relevant to my current goals. However, if I were to pursue an EMR now, I would discuss this with my therapist.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
