I am writing to you with my tho...Dear Mr. Nardelli:
I am writing to you with my thoughts on why the US car industry is in such dire straits.
This concerns my own car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Limited Edition, 2001 model, with 148,000 miles on the clock.
I lived in NJ until September 2008 and then moved to PA. Before I left NJ I had the vehicle overhauled with replacement brakes, shocks etc. The vehicle ran well and the repairs were done by a Jeep dealer in Far Hills, NJ
I had an inspection in PA in August this year and the car fsiled because the rear Mopar shocks were leaking. My wife drives this car to work 3 days per week, 85 miles each way and so the milage on these shocks was 27.500.
I was shocked (no pun intended) that these parts especially the rear shocks should fail in such a short period. The car has been driven almost solely on Interstates with no undue wear or tear.
I wrote to Chrysler about this and received a letter from your "service" person Melanie Dav who thanked me for my commsnts and told me that it was only through letters from loyal customers like me that Chrysler was able to improve its service and quality !!
I wrote back thanking Melanie for her letter and saying that it was gratifying to learn that through my misfortune Chrysler was able to continue its existence.
I have since spoken to another of your repesentives about my case #18928824 and have been advised that Mopar parts are warranteed for only 12,000 miles or 12 months.
Now do you think in the case of a Jeep Grand Cherokee that this is reasonable when this car is advertized as being able to climb mountains? You are now selling vehicles with warranties up to 100,000 miles. How can you legitinately offer such guarantees when you hear of such low quality from Mopar?
I would like to hear your comments.
Now here is the kicker. I had a second vehicle, a Honda Accord, 2002 model which I was looking to trade. I looked at your Jeep Patriot which I test-drove and liked a lot. I also looked at a Honda CR-V. Then I received the dismissive letter from Melanie.
Guess which car I purchased?
THAT is what is wrong with the US car industry. Now how much do you think it would have cost Chrysler to replace teh shocks? Maybe $150 and great PR.
Good luck working with FIAT. Maybe at least the Mopar parts may be soon manufactured in Italy rather than China.
Kind regards,
Gerry Mahongerrymhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14049089970362949263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-50628858577278236502009-04-10T05:24:00.000-04:002009-04-10T05:24:00.000-04:00I am glad you posted this, I have a 2005 Chrysler ...I am glad you posted this, I have a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country and so far so good, however when my mother died and I missed 1 payment out of the 3 years I had been paying on the car, we were assured that if we made an interest only payment it would not hurt our credit. That was an out and out lie, because we paid the interest only payment and then paid the car off in full, once again we were assured that this would not be on our credit score. When we checked our annual credit score we discovered that they showed us 47 day late, and when we called to question that report we also got the India guy. He was impossible to deal with, so asked for a supervisor who was also impossible to deal with. Wonder where the American guy was that promised us that as "good" customers dealing with a death in their family would not have a negative report especially because we paid the car in full within a month of that interest only payment. I gave up, but when they started asking for our tax dollars to bail them out, after their insensitivity and lying, I called them again to see if we could get them to budge and remove that negative mark from our report, still reached the India guy. With so many Americans out of work and such insensitivity I could care less if they go bankrupt. And if they don't I will NEVER buy another car from them, even though we really like our Town and Country and had a great dealer.
Thanks for giving me a place to vent, I am sure there are more of us out there that cannot get results from Chrysler Corporation.Ilana/A StylishLadyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10896346814841973491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-99461412955789402009-02-22T10:19:00.000-05:002009-02-22T10:19:00.000-05:00i am dealing with a dodge dealer in la mesa ca and...i am dealing with a dodge dealer in la mesa ca and have had THE WORST service there i have ever come across. i was told by a service tecnician that my car would possibly be done the following day only to be called back and told that it would not be done until the following monday and that i had to return my rental car to them and if i wanted to keep it i would have to pay for it myself. i was also referred to call their customer support and got transferred to india as well only to be told if i asked him the same question he would disconnect the call. what's the point? no wonder why no one wants to buy an american made car anymore. i have a 2006 dodge charger that needs to have teh gaskets and cylinders replaced because there is erosion in the cylinders. all that for a new car? i have been offered no assistance and when i spoke to the service manager he told me that his tech never said such a thing that my car would be ready the following day cause that would be impossible. it's amazing that my friend and i heard the same thing from the tech only to be told it wasn't true by a service manager that was not even there. amazing!!!!!!!! it's also amazing that when you really need assistance you can't get anyone in th us that speaks english. when i complained about that the response from the service manager was that it was not his company. now, what ever happened to good ol' customer service and not passing the buck on a different department. if it's not part of his company why does the greeting welcome and thank you for calling dodge chrysler and ge???????? i will NEVER buy a dodge again, nor would i recommend it!!!!!!!!!!! the service manager asked if i thought he should pay for my rental and i said yes, that's the least he could do since i'd be out of a car for 4 days, and he said that he would not if i was never coming back to their dealership again. that confirmed my decision never to go back there again!!!!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-73176383419424606692009-01-17T02:07:00.000-05:002009-01-17T02:07:00.000-05:00Although a Cadillac is not my ideal vehicle, exper...Although a Cadillac is not my ideal vehicle, experiences like yours are exactly why my last three cars have been Cadillacs. (At 30-something when I bought my first one I must have been the dealership's youngest customer.)

The dealership I do business with is spotless, I love my service rep, everyone has always bent over backwards to deal with any non-standard requests and the door to door limo service is terrific.

There are other cars on the market that I find more appealing than Cadillacs but, in each case, I know someone who owns one that has had ongoing horrendous experiences with dealer service. (I came real close to buying a Lexus until I heard about my sister's service nightmares.)

And lest you think that I'm a high-end buyer, that isn't really the case. Each of my Cadillacs has been a late model used car that well taken care of by the previous owner and surprisingly reasonable in price. The dealership had done all the past service work and made the records available to me but I also checked CARFAX just to confirm the car's history.

Your letter to Chrysler is reasonable and well written so I hope someone will sit up and take notice.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-9342071664413763392009-01-13T21:44:00.000-05:002009-01-13T21:44:00.000-05:00I think writing this letter was a good idea. I ho...I think writing this letter was a good idea. I hope that you get some satisfaction.

Although the Japanese auto makers are not perfect, their vehicles are, in general, far more reliable than the american-made, particularly Chrysler.

Many years ago, we bought a Jeep. That was the biggest waste of money! We paid at least the purchase price in repairs over the next four years.

Best wishes for a response of any kind,Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-6442206735394981502009-01-09T09:51:00.000-05:002009-01-09T09:51:00.000-05:00After reading your post I wanted to mention that, ...After reading your post I wanted to mention that, as an owner of a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan, I am now slightly worried about my entire vehicle falling apart.

Technically, I've been worried about that for years, and I'm just hoping it holds on long enough to trade it in sometime within the next year.FTNhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00863217400079842687noreply@blogger.com
