I remember hoping I never got a boyfriend so I could stay home and watch it each week. My parents weren't going to drop cash on cable or one of those high and fancy VCRs!

Sharing that just reaffirms how lame I was growing up!for a different kind of girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04431273646365489225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-22387317302541354422007-07-28T10:23:00.000-04:002007-07-28T10:23:00.000-04:00for a different kind of girl writes:In my assorted...for a different kind of girl writes:

In my assorted cassettes is the Paul Young release with this track and "Come Back and Stay" on it.

Excellent choice! This song brings up memories in its own right.

My brother and I probably watched way too much Mtv (and Friday Night Videos) for our own good in the early-to-mid 80s.

I remember the video for "Come Back and Stay". I believe it depicts Young on a cliff, with choppy ocean waters below.

The closeups of Young's singing exhude overwrought emotionalism, prompting my brother and me to liken the performance to the acting of William Shatner.

At about the same time we had watched an episode of Late Night with David Letterman doing something with William Shatner's cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

That prompted us to ponder what a William Shatner cover of "Come Back and Stay" would have sounded like. I'm sure it would have involved interjections of "Spock" during the refrain.

You're probably cringing in horror at the thought of that right now, aren't you? C'mon admit it.

--
2amsomewhere2amsomewherehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12343733349708172680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31278044.post-42096123475071998552007-07-28T01:11:00.000-04:002007-07-28T01:11:00.000-04:00In my assorted cassettes is the Paul Young release...In my assorted cassettes is the Paul Young release with this track and "Come Back and Stay" on it. I still love it, though I've long since upgraded. Enjoy the Springsteen cover, as well.

Like you, I didn't release how deep this song had traveled in time.
