I was the nice girl married to the bad boy. When I finally embraced myself as i am, including my needs, and refused to accept the bad treatment, it led to divorce. But I'm about a hundred times happier at this point in my life than I was when I was married. Further, I think my kids are more content, in many ways (though not all). At a minimum there is less conflict and more congeniality at both houses.
